“Cascades” was created for City Light in 2007 by artist Paul Marioni. The artwork was commissioned with Seattle City Light 1 percent for Art funds administered by the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.

Marioni describes the piece as a narrative artwork about water and its relationship to people, who use it to make energy. The cascading waterfalls of glass are designed to evoke the Cascade Mountains, reminding viewers of the source of some of Seattle City Light’s hydroelectric power.
