Seattle City Light is hosting a community meeting tomorrow evening, Thursday, March 15, at which Horizon View customers can learn about a project that will extend the life of their underground electrical cables. Horizon View is a neighborhood in Lake Forest Park.

In 2009, Seattle City Light began a program of testing and injecting silicon into aging underground electrical cables that feed power to neighborhoods. The process involves first testing the cables to determine their status. Cable found suitable is injected with silicon to fill cracks in the protective insulation. The process, including replacing insulating rubber connectors, extends the life of the cable about 20 years. To date, 17 neighborhoods have been completed. Horizon View is the next planned neighborhood.

Affected customers have been mailed an invitation to the meeting which is scheduled from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lake Forest Park City Hall, 17425 Ballinger Way NE.
