Seattle City Light General Manager and CEO Jorge Carrasco is scheduled to join US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz on Monday for a discussion on how to double American energy productivity by 2030 during the Energy Efficiency Global Forum in Washington, D.C.
Carrasco is set to discuss what municipalities can and should do to promote energy efficiency, a utility perspective of how Seattle has moved forward on energy efficiency, why energy productivity can drive energy efficiency to the next level and the policies that are needed to achieve the goal of doubling energy productivity.
Carrasco serves as co-chair of the Alliance to Save Energy’s board.
Doubling U.S. energy productivity by 2030 is a goal outlined in both President Obama’s Climate Action Plan and the Alliance to Save Energy’s Energy 2030 initiative. Doubling energy productivity could save America $327 billion, save families over $1,000 a year on energy bills, add over a million jobs, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by one-third, and reduce oil imports by one-third as well.
Monday’s panel discussion will begin with the formal launch of the Alliance’s Energy 2030 On the Road Campaign, which seeks to galvanize action at the state and local levels through a shared commitment to the Energy 2030 goal. Moniz is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
