Seattle City Light Signs Climate Declaration

Today, Seattle City Light signed the Climate Declaration to show our support for tackling climate change.

As a hydroelectric-based utility, we consider climate change a significant threat. We depend on snowpack in the mountain watersheds that feed the rivers that power our dams to store water for summer months. Warmer temperatures that bring more rain, less snow and start spring meltoffs sooner, would reduce our ability to generate the electricity our customers need.

City Light is already taking action and leading the way when it comes to environmental responsibility. We’ve been carbon neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the country to achieve that status. And we hope others will do what they can to reduce their carbon footprints as well.

This is what you do when you’re the nation’s greenest utility.

We’re proud to be among the hundreds of organizations and companies who have signed the Climate Declaration and hope that others will join us in this effort.
