Windstorm knocks out power to thousands

More than 51,000 customers are without power after the arrival of the first big windstorm of the season.

The first outages began before 6 p.m. and picked up the pace after 8 p.m., with large outages in Shoreline, Wedgewood, and South Seattle.

As of 10:30 p.m. the number of new outages had started to slow. We expect the worst of the storm has passed. Crews and engineers are sorting through the thousands of calls, but workers may not start on repairs until the winds die down.

Crews are on the field right now, with more on the way, to assess the damage. Restoration work will likely begin after midnight and continue through the night and into Sunday.
