Skagit Tours start new season July 1

New Skagit Tours begin this weekend at North Cascade National Park Complex. The visitor and information centers are open and National Park campgrounds are ready for visitors.

“We are excited about the new Skagit Tours for North Cascades National Park. We invite you to come and have fun in your national park,” said North Cascades National Park Complex Superintendent Chip Jenkins.

Skagit Tours begin this Friday with a guided boat tour of Diablo Lake. The tour includes a delicious lunch at the Environmental Learning Center overlooking Diablo Lake. Tours are Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in July and August, with special senior group bookings available on Thursdays.

North Cascade Expeditions also begin Friday with a guided van and walking tour along Highway 20. This adventurous field day includes a picnic lunch at a scenic site, plus either a two-mile hike or several shorter hikes.

There are also free guided walking tours of Seattle City Light’s historic company town, Newhalem.  If camping isn’t on your itinerary, there are motels and guest cabins in nearby Marblemount.

Expeditions are offered Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in July and August.  Skagit Tours are now operated as a partnership between North Cascades National Park, North Cascades Institute and Seattle City Light and guided by both a North Cascades National Park Ranger and North Cascades Institute Naturalist.
