Power Mostly Restored in South Seattle Neighborhood

SEATTLESeattle City Light crews have restored power to all but nine customers in the South Seattle neighborhood. The outage affected nearly 7,400 customers after 5 p.m. in the Columbia, Brighton and Beacon Hill neighborhood.

The original outage boundaries were South Hanford Street on the north; Second Avenue South on the west; Rainier Avenue Southon the east; and South Othello Street on the south. Not everyone within this territory was without power.

The cause was determined to be a failed underground mainstem cable.

Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
