Members of the public attended the Denny Substation Design Open House on Oct. 9, 2013.
Seattle City Light held a public open house on Oct. 9 to share information about the utility’s Denny Substation Project, and to receive feedback on early design concepts for the new construction. Nearly 70 people attended the open house to provide input, voice concerns and ask questions about the project.

City Light believes public engagement will help create a substation that meets the utility’s mission and also reflects the neighborhood’s character. The utility encourages public comment on the Denny Substation, and will use customer input to make informed decisions on design, project art and public benefits.
Located near Denny Way and Stewart Street, the Denny Substation will ensure reliable power for some of the city’s fastest growing areas, as well as customers throughout City Light’s service area. The project includes:
- A new electrical substation on Denny Way near Stewart Street
- An underground distribution system that will serve high-load density areas in the South Lake Union Area and Denny Triangle
- A new transmission line that will connect the new substation to the Massachusetts substation
An in-depth environmental analysis — the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) — is scheduled to be published in early 2014. The DEIS will provide the public with an opportunity to review and comment on project alternatives, potential impacts and mitigation measures.
