Our Most Popular Photos of the Week for 2023

Each week, we share a Photo of the Week on our social media channels that is taken by a different City Light employee. We’re so grateful for the contributions and new perspectives our employees share. These gorgeous photos are usually of beautiful Washington landscapes, our hydroelectric projects, and more.

With the new year nearly upon us, here are our top five most popular Photos of the Week for 2023! Follow us on Instagram for more City Light content in 2024.

The largest ferry system in the nation, Washington State Ferries have been taking steps to phase in electric-hybrid ferries. This will not only significantly reduce pollution on the Seattle waterfront, but also help reduce greenhouse-gas emissions for our state’s largest transportation contributor. By 2040, ferry electrification will reduce maritime carbon emissions by 76%.

It’s no surprise Boundary Dam is represented twice. The Boundary Hydroelectric Project is positioned along the scenic Pend Oreille River, surrounded by the foothills of the Selkirk Mountains, in northeastern Washington. It’s a popular place for recreational opportunities, which we’ve committed to preserving and enhancing.

The Cedar Falls Hydroelectric Project was actually City Light’s first hydroelectric plant built to light the streets of Seattle and the nation’s first municipally owned hydroelectric project. It was completed in 1914 and included the Masonry Dam, penstocks, powerhouse, and a company town.

Finally, this picture of Hozomeen Lake is just a sample of how gorgeous the North Cascades are. Our Skagit Hydroelectric Project is located here, and we encourage you to take a Skagit Tour in 2024!
