Seattle City Light repair crews responded to a power outage affecting about 3,700 homes and businesses in West Seattle just before 5 p.m. today.

A pole fire was being investigated as the possible cause. An estimate for restoration of service was not immediately available.

The general boundaries of the outage were SW Hudson Street on the north, SW Henderson Street on the south, 5th Avenue S on the east and 39th Avenue SW on the west. Not all customers within that area were affected.

Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States.  It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents.  City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
