Cable Testing and Injection Complete on Magnolia Bluff

Seattle City Light’s contractor has completed testing and silicone injection of underground power cables on Magnolia Bluff.

The lifespan of aging underground cables can be extended by 20 or more years by injecting them with silicone to fill cracks in their protective insulation. Crews first test the cable to determine if the injection process can work. If the cable condition is satisfactory, crews will inject the silicone into the lines. If cables are found to be in poor condition, they will be replaced at a later time.

This work has been done to help avoid unplanned outages. We are using this method in other locations including: Leschi, Arroyo Beach, North Shoreline, Delridge, and Queen Anne. More details can be found here: http://tiny.cc/7awma
