Windermere Customers Invited to Community Meeting

Seattle City Light is hosting a community meeting tonight, June 6, at the Laurelhurst Community Center, for customers in the Windemere area to learn about a project that will extend the life of their underground cables.

Seattle City Light is hosting a community meeting this evening, June 6, at which Windermere customers can learn about a project that will extend the life of their underground electrical cables.

In 2009, Seattle City Light began a program of testing and injecting silicon into aging underground electrical cables that feed power to neighborhoods. The process involves first testing the cables to determine their status. Cable found suitable is injected with silicon to fill cracks in the protective insulation. The process, including replacing insulating rubber connectors, extends the life of the cable about 20 years. To date, twenty neighborhoods have been completed. Windermere is the next planned neighborhood.

Affected customers have been mailed an invitation to the meeting which is scheduled from 7-8 p.m. at the Laurelhurst Community Center, which is located at 4554 NE 41st St.
