Power Restored in South Seattle

Seattle City Light crews completed full restoration of service to customers affected by a power outage in South Seattle about 2:15 p.m. today.

The outage was caused by the failure of overhead power lines in the 5700 block of S 130th Place about 6 a.m. Crews routed power around the damage to restore service for most of the 3,100 affected customers in about an hour.

Crews then worked to replace the damaged equipment and restore service to the remaining 11 customers.

Areas affected included Rainier Beach, Green River, Duwamish, Rainier View and parts of unincorporated King County near Tukwila and Renton. General boundaries of the outage were: S Bangor Street to the north; 42nd Avenue S to the west, 76th Avenue S to the east, and S 170 Street to the south. Not all customers in that area were affected.

Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States.  It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents.  City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
