Progress continues on the first substation to be constructed by Seattle City Light in 30 years. After a quiet winter, the site of the future Denny Substation is again alive with activity. Phase II of the remediation project began April 1. The work will consist of removing contaminated soil and backfilling with clean soil, removal of an underground storage tank and construction of a shoring wall. Completion of this phase of the project is scheduled for October 2013. For greater detail of the remediation project, please visit the project website at: http://www.seattle.gov/light/dennysub/cleanup.asp
Also, to help the public better understand the function of a substation, the Denny Substation project team has posted a four-minute-and-thirty-second video on the project website. The video provides a brief description of the project, a high-level overview of how power is delivered and the role of a substation in that delivery.
