Seattle City Light will be present at the opening day of the South Lake Union Saturday Market on May 14. The utility will be distributing information and answering questions related to the construction of the Denny Substation, which will be located near the Saturday Market.
Located at Denny Way and Stewart Street, the Denny Substation will provide the electrical infrastructure to meet the power needs of current and anticipated City Light customers. The new electrical substation will be the utility’s largest and first substation in 30 years, and boasts an innovative and eye-catching design that represents two years of work by City Light and its design team, as well as the input of area stakeholders and the guidance of the Seattle Design Commission.
This vital and exciting project will support the city’s rapid growth, help fuel the local economy, and enhance the neighborhood with new parks and open spaces, an off-leash area, community meeting spaces, and public art.
The opening day of the South Lake Union Saturday Market will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on 9th Avenue between Denny Ave N. and John St. With the opening of the market, City Light aims to raise community awareness of the Denny Substation Program and answer any related questions workers, residents and visitors of South Lake Union may have regarding the project.
