Seattle City (spot)Light: Chad Hawkings

Chad Hawkings has worked at City Light for six years. Based in Newhalem, Chad is part of the administrative team for the utility’s Skagit Hydroelectric Project. He works in different areas of the site—from facilities to hospitality.

A Skagit County local, Chad graduated from Concrete High School and lives in Lyman, Washington. “I like the mountains and the trees around the area,” Chad said. “I also have a dog named Cocoa who likes the outdoors.”

In this week’s (spot)Light, Chad talks about his hobbies (hint: he’s a sports fan) and what he enjoys most about his job.

“My parents like to take me out. We go the movies. Recently, I saw Peter Rabbit. It was good.  My favorite movie of all time is Fast and Furious. I also love sports—basketball, baseball, football. My favorite teams are Seahawks, Mariners, and the Sounders. I also like going to sporting events and will go to games with my aunt.”

“I have many different tasks at the Skagit. In the office, I shred papers. At the Gorge Inn, I help with lunches. I also keep the facilities clean. I clean the bathrooms, the rigs and make sure the ice is always full. There is always something to do.”

“I like working at Seattle City Light. I get to hang out with my friends here at the Skagit. The people here are very nice, and we’re located in a beautiful area. It’s also fun because I get to meet a lot of people—employees here at the Skagit, workers from Seattle and others who visit Newhalem on vacation. And of course, I like getting a paycheck!”
