Gabriel Goings recently celebrated his one-year anniversary at City Light. He’s part of the Utility Operations & Engineering business unit where he works as a heavy truck driver for the Shipping and Receiving office. “I drive tractor/trailers and truck/trailer combinations to haul material and equipment to assigned work sites,” Gabriel explained. “We work closely with the lineworkers, cable splicers and handle a lot of pick-up and delivery of materials at the substations as well.”
Gabriel was born and raised in Washington. “I attended Kent Meridian High School and went straight into the workforce after graduation,” he shared. Gabriel lives in Federal Way with his wife Kisha.
In this week’s (spot)Light, Gabriel talks about his hobbies, life in Federal Way and what he enjoys about City Light.
“One of the many things I appreciate about Federal Way is that the citizens are very active in the community. There are also many cool businesses that are moving to the area. Ellenos Greek Yogurt moved their headquarters to Federal Way earlier this year. Other popular chains like Chick-Fil-A and Seattle-owned Ezell’s Chicken have also opened in Federal Way which indicates how we’re growing. We also have an awesome community center.”
“Music is one of my favorite activities. I produce hip hop and R&B music and some pop music. I’m in a group called Illyricum which is a fusion of all the genres I just mentioned. We have an EP on iTunes that we released in 2014.”
“There are many things that attracted me to City Light – the diversity, career stability and great benefits. What we do at the utility has a direct effect on the members of the community. In a way, we’re representative of Seattle and because of that, we have the unique opportunity to bring ‘light’ to our surrounding community.”
