Seattle City (spot)Light: Reed Adam, Audit Process Consultant

The Basics
Years of Service: Two
Division: Financial and Business Services
Role: As part of Internal Audit, I work on operational and compliance audits with business units across the utility. I also work on data analysis and reporting for Financial and Business Services.

Background
Hometown:
I grew up in Seattle but moved to Northern California for college. I returned to Washington in 2017 to be closer to family and because I missed the landscapes and weather of the Pacific Northwest.
Alma Mater: Stanford University (undergraduate) and UC Davis (graduate)
Discipline/Trade of Study: As an undergrad, I studied archaeology and anthropology. As a grad student, I studied accounting.
Tell us about your family: My parents live here in Seattle; I have one older sister who lives in Montana and most of my extended family lives in Western Washington.

“Being part of Internal Audit has given me the opportunity to learn about different aspects of our utility and to work with people across the organization.”

Just for Fun
Where do you live and what’s something you love about the area?
I live in the Roosevelt area; I enjoy having so many stores and restaurants nearby and I often walk around the neighborhood and Ravenna Park with my dog.

What are some of your favorite activities/hobbies? I have an 11-year-old lab/border collie mix named Roco that I adopted in 2015. He’s slowed down now that he’s a senior, but he still loves to get outside for a hike or swim. Since I moved back to Washington, Roco and I have explored different parts of the state and we enjoy our local trails as well, especially Carkeek Park and Cougar Mountain. Since the pandemic started, I have tried to hike every weekend and have also been reading, baking, and cooking a lot more. My spice and cookbook collections have really expanded this past year.

What brought/attracted you to City Light? I have spent most of my career working in the public sector. City Light appealed to me for this reason and also because our utility values of environmental stewardship and social justice.

What do you enjoy most about working at City Light? I enjoy working with my coworkers on the Internal Audit team. Being part of Internal Audit has given me the opportunity to learn about different aspects of our utility and to work with people across the organization. In addition, I have been part of the RSJI Change Team since Fall 2020 and have found that to be a very rewarding experience.
