Seattle City (spot)Light: Donna Chen, Talent Acquisition Specialist Assistant

The Basics

How long have you been at City Light? Four years

Business Unit: People & Culture

Role: As part of the Talent Acquisition team, I create a fulfilling recruitment experience for candidates throughout their recruitment cycle. This includes scheduling interviews and testing assessments, sending notifications, coordinating background checks (e.g., physical assessments, commercial driver’s license), creating offer letters, and coordinating start dates for temporary employees. I pride myself on providing excellent customer service for both internal and external customers.

Background

Hometown: Yakima, Wash.

Alma Mater: University of Washington (UW) – Goooo Dawgs!!!

Area of Study: I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Family: I have three children. My son recently graduated from UW and is working as a software engineer at Microsoft. And I have two middle-school girls that keep me busy.

Just for Fun

If you could have any job for only one day, what would it be and why? I think it would be fun to be a restaurant mystery shopper. You get paid to experience different cuisines while eating the best a restaurant has to offer. Yes, I’m a massive foodie!!!

What is your favorite travel memory? Two years ago, my family and I camped and hiked around Yellowstone National Park and the Tetons. We saw moose, elk, bison, other animals, and so many cool geysers! We bonded around the campfire and played games in the travel trailer.

The big game is on – what sport are you watching and who are you rooting for? I’m watching the game right now! Since my favorite football team, the Seattle Seahawks, aren’t in the play-offs, I’m rooting for the Los Angeles Rams as Cooper Kupp is representing my hometown.

What is your idea of a perfect day: Waking up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and having a slow start to the day. Going to the Portage Bay Café for their fresh fruit and homemade whipped cream bar! And then taking a hike up the steep ascent of the Cable Line route on Tiger Mountain or a long run through the woods. Finally, some time at the spa and then ending the evening with a World War II movie or a comedy show to cap this perfect day.

What’s one thing that has surprised you about working at City Light: How easy it is to work with our down-to-earth leadership staff.
