Seattle City (spot)Light: Katoya Grant, Administrative Staff Assistant

The Basics

How long have you been at City Light? I’ve been with City Light since May 15, 2007.

Division: I’ve worked in several divisions across City Light, but most recently I work under Rob Santoff in T&D Field Operations.

Tell us about your role. What does your job entail?  I assist with coordinating special projects, research and administration needs for the division.

Background

Hometown: Seattle, Wash.

Alma Mater: Graduated from Renton High School. Attended the University of Phoenix.

Area of study: Business administration with a concentration in human resources.

Tell us about your family: I have three children: Jawan, 17; Willie, 13; and Brooklynn,  10. This year is a big transformation for our household, as my oldest is graduating from Cleveland High School and enrolled in college this fall. My two youngest will also make a huge transformation into middle school and high school.

We love traveling and hanging out at home. Sports are a big part of our lives, as I am the vice president of a local football team, Renton Five Star Football & Cheer. My daughter has been cheerleading with the organization for five years, and my younger son just completed his last year with the team and is headed to play high school football this fall. Community work is also a big part of my family and something I instill in my children. When they’re not playing sports, my children love to help with fundraisers, community outreach and game days.

Just for Fun

When you were younger, what was your dream job? I wanted to obtain a degree in international business, but I also dreamed about becoming a mortician.

What’s the best piece of advice you have received? Network! It’s not always about what you know but rather who you know, and once that door opens, run through it.

What’s your favorite book and why? “The Four Agreements by Don Ruiz. It helped me understand that nothing is more important in life than your own happiness. YOU are your most important project in this lifetime!

Where is your favorite place that you have traveled? Rotan, Honduras

What do you like most about your role? I love helping bring new ideas to life and problem solving. I enjoy the process of researching, analyzing, and then being able to make an awesome recommendation.
