Seattle City (spot)Light: Jenn Strang, Media Relations Manager

The Basics

How long have you been at City Light?  I started working for City Light in November of 2021.

Division: Communications

Tell us about your role. What does your job entail?  I am the media relations manager. My job is to share Seattle City Light’s story with the public. I serve as the spokesperson and main point of contact between the utility and the media. My team is also responsible for digital engagement efforts including social media and multimedia communications.

Background

Hometown: I grew up in a very small, rural town on the New York/Pennsylvania border near Buffalo, N.Y. Prior to moving to Seattle last fall, I spent 17 years in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Alma Mater: York College of Pennsylvania (bachelor’s degree), Point Park University (master’s degree)

Area of study: Public relations and journalism

Tell us about your family: I live in Ballard with my two cats, Greedo and Wicket, but most of my family resides in and around Raleigh, N.C.

Just for Fun

If you could have dinner with one person, living or deceased, who would it be and why? Anthony Bourdain. He and I share the belief that we should experience life without being afraid of the unknown. Some of my best meals and conversations I’ve ever had were found by not following directions or just winging it while traveling.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend? Exploring my new city, enjoying live music, looking for treasures at a local vintage shop or record store, or hanging out at a local brewery with friends.

Where is your favorite place that you have traveled? I took myself on a solo trip around France and Belgium for my 40th birthday and fell in love with Bruges in Belgium.

The big game is on – what sport are you watching and who are you rooting for? Hockey – let’s go Pens! Growing up we had a giant satellite dish in the backyard that only got Canadian TV after 5 p.m., so I watched a lot of Hockey Night in Canada.
