Seattle City (spot)Light: Ronald Hicks, Warehouser

The Basics

How long have you been at City Light?  Since November 2022

Division: Transmission & Distribution Field Operations, Warehouse

Tell us about your role. What does your job entail?  I mainly work with different trade and work groups to ensure that they have the equipment and tools necessary to complete their assigned tasks and upcoming work. This includes issuing personal protective equipment (PPE), tools, transformers, wire, and other electrical equipment at the South Service Center.

Background

Hometown: Portland, Oregon

Alma Mater: Cleveland High School

Discipline/Trade of study: I’ve worked for several years in the transportation and logistics industry but also have an extensive background in construction. I’ve been a welder, owned a painting and renovation business, and have studied electricity and electrical theory.

Tell us about your family: I come from a pretty large family. I have four brothers and one sister. My mother has been working for King County for the last 27 years.

Just for Fun

What is one of your biggest accomplishments? Completing the B.E.A.M (Basic Electricity & Applied Mathematics) class offered by City Light. I was working a full-time job at the time. I would work double shifts just about every day and managed to complete the course. I still work two jobs now but hopefully in the near future that will no longer be necessary.

What is your favorite local activity? Spending time with friends and experiencing new things, pretty much anything that stimulates thought. I also love cars.

If you could only take three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be?  Probably a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, a PlayStation 5, and an 88-inch TV.

What is your favorite savory treat? Nicaraguan flank steak.
