How to reduce your 2025 electricity bill now
With the average residential customer paying about $4 more each month, here are some low- or no-cost tips to help offset the increased costs.
Try some of these tips for simple, everyday savings.
- Decrease shower time by a few minutes to conserve both water and energy.
- Run full loads in your dishwasher, washing machine, or dryer for max efficiency.
- Seal air leaks around doors or windows to prevent drafts and reduce heating/cooling costs.
- Think twice about space heaters since running one for just three hours can cost $1 — which quickly adds up.
- Turn down the thermostat a few degrees in winter; each degree lowers heating costs by 2-3%.
- Unplug energy vampires like gaming consoles, computers, and chargers when not in use.
- Upgrade to energy-efficient lighting, which uses 75% less energy and lasts significantly longer than incandescent bulbs.
- Use a microwave, slow cooker, or toaster oven instead of a larger oven.
- Wash laundry in cold water and air dry when possible.
We all have the power to make a difference. By adopting energy-saving habits, we can lighten the load on the power grid, save money, and help our region reach its clean energy goals. Simple actions like turning off lights when leaving a room or upgrading to energy-efficient appliances can make a big impact.
Share these tips with friends, family, and neighbors to help spread the word. Together, we can create a more energy-efficient and sustainable future while reducing our energy bills.
