The Basics
How long have you been at City Light? Almost three years
Division: Engineering and Technology Operations
Tell us about your role. I’m an electrical engineer on the Generation team. We work in the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of City Light’s hydroelectric generation facilities. My favorite thing about my role is that every day can be different. I work in the office, but I also travel to the powerhouses.
Background
Hometown: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Alma mater: Universidad de Buenos Aires
Discipline/Trade of study: Electrical engineering
Tell us about your family/pets: I live with my partner, Gabi, and our dog, Leia. Gabi and I met at the university while we were studying 20 years ago, and we’ve been together since then. We adopted Leia almost seven years ago in Buenos Aires. We love to take her to dog parks and on dog-friendly hikes.
Just for fun
What’s the most unusual or unique job you’ve ever had? Working at an ice rink! I was responsible for kids’ birthday celebrations, serving food, and making sure they were safe while skating. It was very challenging, but fun! I learned all the “High School Musical” songs back then; they were on repeat nonstop.
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend? My “outie” (for those who’ve seen “Severance”) likes to walk, hike, or have BBQs with friends when the weather is nice. In the summer, I love to go to the lakes and go paddleboarding. I like winter sports too, but since I didn’t grow up with snow, I’m still a newbie. (Yes, there are mountains and snow in South America! But not where I grew up.) My partner and I like to brew our own beer together and judge beer-making competitions. It’s a great excuse to travel, too. We also enjoy cooking pizza or empanadas and playing board games with friends.
If you could have any fictional character as your best friend, who would it be? Leslie Knope from “Parks & Recreation.” She is very positive, committed to public service, and goes above and beyond to improve her town. I am lucky to have coworkers who are equally cheerful and enjoy the sense of purpose this job provides.
The big game is on – what sport are you watching and who are you rooting for? The big game is the World Cup, the sport is football (soccer), and I’m rooting for Argentina.
What do you admire most about your younger self? My tenacity to keep studying and my ability to dream big. I ended up fulfilling some of those dreams, like working in hydro!
What’s your favorite board game or video game? I don’t know if it counts as a board game, but I’d say “Dungeons & Dragons.” I’m currently on a campaign playing a stealthy rogue known as “the slippery one.” I also enjoy playing video games. Currently we are playing the “The Last of Us.” I want to get to the second part because (spoiler alert) you can see Seattle Municipal Tower!
