The Basics
Division: Communications
How long have you been at City Light? I joined Seattle City Light on June 8, 2011. I’ve been with the City of Seattle since May 23, 2001.
Tell us about your role. What does your job entail? I’ve been around for a long time, so I work on a plethora of things, but I mainly focus on marketing and talking to customers about energy efficiency programs. Basically, I help them save money and lower their bills while also helping the environment. I’m also part of the outage duty rotation on the Communications team. While I never like to see people lose their power, I love being able to help them when they do.
Background
Hometown: I’ve lived here my entire life! I currently live in Lake Forest Park, but I have lived in Shoreline and in Seattle, so three of the cities City Light serves.
Alma mater: Shorecrest High School and University of Washington
Discipline/Trade of study: Sociology and society and justice – I originally wanted to be a police officer.
Tell us about your family/pets: I’ve got two big dogs – Buddy (Rottweiler/pit bull /lab mix) and Swayze (yellow lab) – they are my besties. For anyone who has ever watched the movie “Better Off Dead,” I feel like the cheerleader who is followed by the basketball team. My dogs follow me everywhere I go.
The love of my life is my son, Jackson. I became a widow a week after finding out I was pregnant and have dedicated my life to being his mom since he was born 15 years ago. He’s as big-hearted as I am, but a much better human than me! He plays travel baseball, high school football, and recreational soccer. I’ve been a baseball coach for Shoreline Little League for 10 years and I was an assistant coach for my son’s select team for almost three seasons. Coaching kids is the best thing I’ve ever done with my free time, and I’ve volunteered hundreds of hours doing it. Nothing better than kids. I also served as president of Shoreline Little League for one year and have volunteered my time in various ways for different baseball organizations. I coached a Little League team (9- to 11-year-olds) and had my son and other kids help me coach the kids. It was a great experience for all, especially since the younger kids looked up to the older boys I brought out to help me coach them.
