Turning Community Feedback into Action: How Customers Are Shaping Our Energy Future

At Seattle City Light, our mission is to make sure your power is reliable, affordable, and doesn’t harm the planet. We’re facing big changes affecting how we provide energy and how people are using energy.

As we plan for the future, we want our work to align with what the communities we serve care about most. That’s why we’re listening to you — our customers — to help guide the way forward.

What is a strategic plan?

Every six years, we make a plan for how we will provide reliable service, invest in new equipment, and support clean energy. This year, we’re looking even further ahead with a 10-year roadmap. We’re also working on other plans, including the Clean Energy Implementation Plan (CEIP) and Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), so everything works together to better serve you and your neighbors.

Talking with communities

Last year, we teamed up with the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods to hear directly from our customers. We intentionally focused on listening to people who don’t always get a say in big decisions. This included:

  • Joining 16 community events including Lake City Summer Fest, Byrd Barr Block Party, Tukwila Community Play Day, and Celebrate Shoreline.
  • Holding more than 20 conversations with community-based groups and organizations.
  • Gathering input from more than 2,000 people and engaging in over 15 languages.

What we heard from you

You told us that electricity is essential and our work should reflect that. Here are some of the main priorities we heard:

  • Help those who need it most: Support people facing high energy costs and climate impacts.
  • Make offerings simple: Provide programs that are easy to access and fit real-life needs.
  • Protect health and the planet: Connect our work to cleaner air, safer homes, and a better future.
  • Share clear information: Help people understand what we do and how they fit in.
  • Promote green energy jobs: Create awareness of the green energy sector, especially among young people.
  • Invest with and in community: Work together to build strong, lasting solutions.

What’s next?

Your feedback is shaping our plans. We’ll keep listening as we move forward. We remain committed to providing affordable, reliable, and environmentally responsible energy services.

You can still give feedback through our online form until March 31, 2026. Your voice is helping power the future of City Light.
