City Light Employees Gather for Annual Memorial Day Ceremonies

City Light employees gathered on May 21 in remembrance to our fallen service members at our annual Memorial Day Flag Raising Ceremonies.

Held at both the North and South Service Centers, this event brings colleagues together to honor the servicemembers who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. This tradition is important to City Light because many of our employees have served in the military.

A Solemn Tribute

Utility leaders and employees spoke at both events. They talked about the bravery and sacrifice of those in uniform.

Director of Transmission & Distribution Operations Sheri Rice welcomed attendees at the North Service Center by asking them to join the ceremony with humility, with honor, and with solemn gratitude:

“Memorial Day asks something of us that does not come easily,” Sheri said. “It asks us to sit with grief alongside gratitude. To hold, in the same breath, pride and sorrow.”

City Light employees gather at the South Service Center for the event.

At the South Service Center, Environmental Management & Real Estate Director Bill Devereaux acknowledged the more than 120 City Light employees who have served across all five branches of the military. Cadets from Liberty High School Naval Junior Officers Training Corps color guards led the Presentation of Colors.

A main part of the ceremonies was a reading of the poem “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae, which was followed by a moment of silence.

Honoring Our Community

City Light remains committed to honoring the sacrifices of our nation’s service members and carrying forward their legacy. As we commemorate Memorial Day, we are reminded to live in a way that preserves the values they fought to protect. We thank the employee volunteers, speakers, and participants who joined us for these important events.
