Seattle City (spot)Light: Sarah Miller, Administrative Professional

The Basics

How long have you been at City Light? 8 months.

Division: Transmission & Distribution Operations

Tell us about your role: My role at Seattle City Light is to provide office support to the people who work behind the scenes supporting our lineworkers in the field. I truly admire all the people I work with, and especially love the culture and diversity at City Light.

Background

Hometown: 100% Ballard

Discipline/Trade of study: My background is in environmental cleanup. I used to be a certified underground storage tank decommissioner, and I specialized in remediating petroleum contaminated soils as a general contractor.

Tell us about your family/pets: I’m a seasoned mom to two wonderful children, Erik, 29, and Violet, 13. Erik is a fiercely independent go-getter, and Violet is a dedicated athlete who enjoys playing Amateur Athletic Union basketball. My daughter and I share our Shoreline home with Henry, our naughty miniature schnauzer. Henry owns us.

Just for fun

What energizes me and brings me excitement? I’m an avid fisherman who loves to spend as much time on the water as possible. Although bottom fishing for halibut and lingcod is my favorite, I also enjoy salmon fishing for Chinook and coho. (I’m team coho.)

What is the one thing I can’t live without and needs electricity to operate? My heated blanket serves me nightly, year-round. Cannot sleep without it. Basically, I’m a chihuahua.

My biggest pet peeve? Weeds. Don’t even get me started. Oh yeah, and pinecones too because I have three enormous trees in the front yard and they’re prolific producers.

What is something most people don’t know about you? I’m a complete homebody when I’m not fishing or watching my daughter play basketball. Home is where my heart is; it brings me a lot of comfort and joy. During the summer, our backyard oasis welcomes friends and family for gatherings of all types. Yes, lots of bonfires and s’mores.
