Power Restored for All Customers in Beacon Hill, Surrounding Neighborhoods

Seattle City Light repair crews restored service about 4:30 p.m. for the last  customers affected by an earlier outage in the Mount Baker, Beacon Hill, Leschi, Industrial and Atlantic neighborhoods.

A pad mount switch that failed about 9:15 a.m. was responsible for the outage for about 3,300 homes and businesses. The general boundaries were S Judkins Street on the north, S Hanford Street on the south, 6th Avenue S on the west and Lake Washington on the east.

Repair crews re-routed power around the damaged equipment, restoring service to all but about 50 customers within an hour. By 11:15 a.m. only five customers served by the circuit fed directly by the switch remained without service. They continued without power until full restoration about 4:30 p.m.

Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States.  It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents.  City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
