Mobile Web a Key Source of Christmas Day Outage Information

About two-thirds of Seattle City Light customers seeking information about Christmas day outages used the utility's new mobile website.

Seattle City Light’s new mobile website became an important source of information for many of the 18,000 customers affected by power outages on Christmas day.

About 7,000 of the roughly 11,000 visits to City Light’s website came from mobile phones that day, or 64 percent of the total.

We recognize how important it is to keep customers informed during power outages. Enhancing our mobile presence was designed to make it easier for customers to get the information they need wherever they might be, even when the lights go out.

The mobile website is available on any device at www.m.seattle.gov/light . An app to launch the mobile site is available in the Android Market. An iPhone version is pending.

On the site, you can check our outage map, report a problem with a streetlight, read the latest news from this Power Lines Blog, get energy saving tips, find contact information or even pay your bill.

Your Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States.  It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents.  City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
