Seattle City Light installed a nesting platform for osprey in Tukwila this week to encourage a pair of the birds to avoid nesting on nearby power lines.

The platform was installed just south of 112th Street and just east of Tukwila Boulevard. The osprey had been trying to build a nest on a high-voltage feeder line, which could have put the birds in danger and increased the risk of power outages.

City Light helped with the installation of a similar nesting platform at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Sandpoint facility in Seattle earlier this month.

In addition to the new nesting platform, City Light plans to install a nest deterrent device in Tukwila like the one the utility is testing on Harbor Island.
