Vault Installation Will Detour Traffic on South Washington Street this Saturday

A traffic detour is planned this Saturday, July 9, as City Light crews install a new vault in South Washington Street in the block between Third Avenue and 2nd Avenue South Extension in downtown Seattle.

A traffic detour is planned this Saturday, July 9, as City Light crews install a new vault in South Washington Street in the block between Third Avenue and 2nd Avenue South Extension in downtown Seattle.

The detour will affect just the one block as a crane is used to move the vault into place. The detour will be in effect on Saturday only. Work will continue at the vault on Sunday, July, 10th and possibly Monday, July 11.

The old vault like others in Pioneer Square was not a standard size. After excavation crews took measurements and had the new concrete vault custom-built. While the vault was constructed and its concrete cured, crews moved to other projects and made arrangements to schedule the crane.
