Our friends at the Seattle Human Services Department’s Mayor’s Office for Senior Citizens are offering a free event where you can learn about "Scams that Target Seniors (and how to prevent them)." Credit card fraud. Internet scams. Telemarketing schemes. Identity theft. Many of these crimes are aimed at unsuspecting older adults, who according to studies, account for more than 50 percent of victims. And in some instances, con artists pretend to represent a utility and threaten to cut off power if a bogus bill isn’t paid immediately.
That’s why we’re happy to announce that our friends at the Seattle Human Services Department’s Mayor’s Office for Senior Citizens are offering a free event where you can learn about “Scams that Target Seniors (and how to prevent them)” from Jean Mathisen, Project Director with AARP Washington Fraud Fighter Call Center.
The session will be held at the Senior Coffee Hour on Thursday, July 19, 10 to 11 a.m., in the Central Building, 810 3rd Ave., 1st floor, Seattle, WA 98104. It is open to the public.
