Seattle City Light is helping qualified customers upgrade to a ductless heating and cooling system that uses a fraction of the electricity and provides more comfort than outdated systems. Eligible homeowners will receive a $1,200 rebate from City Light.
Heating and cooling can be the largest electricity expense in your home. For moderate climates likeSeattle’s, using a ductless system instead of your baseboard or wall heaters can save you money and electricity, while keeping you comfortable.
More than 500 City Light customers have already taken advantage of this offer to install ductless heat pumps in their homes.
“Our old baseboard heaters did not heat our house very evenly. I had a ductless system installed in my home and now we are much more comfortable,” customer Ross Daniel of Seattle said. “We are seeing savings on our utility bills and I love it.”
Unlike a regular heat pump, ductless heat pumps operate without ductwork, eliminating potential loss of energy from leaky or unsealed ducts. They are a good substitute for electric baseboards or wall heaters, but not for existing ducted electric, oil or gas furnaces. A ductless heating and cooling system consists of one indoor unit per room or area, and a compressor unit outside.

How do I know if I qualify for a rebate?
In order to qualify for a rebate, your home must be located in Seattle City Light’s service territory and have electric baseboard heaters, wall units or ceiling units installed as the primary source of heat.
