Seattle City (spot)Light: Jenny Levesque, External Communications Manager

The Basics

How long have you been at City Light? Five years

Division: Communications

Tell us about your role: The External Communications team manages communications with our customers. This includes the website, print and electronic newsletters, community outreach, and public events. We support marketing campaigns for utility programs and initiatives as well as provide communications support for construction and capital improvement projects. It’s busy and sometimes can get hectic when we’ve got a lot going on. I really enjoy talking with our customers and hearing from them about what they like about City Light, their pain points, and what they would like to see in the future. I’m looking forward to when we can do more in-person events in the community.

Background

Hometown: Seattle, Wash.

Alma Mater: St. Mary’s College of California / Seattle University

Area of study: Business Administration, International Concentration (International Business) / Master of Public Administration

Tell us about your family: I grew up in Seattle. I’ve lived in Moraga, Costa Mesa, and San Francisco, Calif., but the Pacific Northwest is home. My parents live here in Seattle. I have a younger sister Madeline. My sister and her husband currently live in Denver, Colo., and they are planning to move back to Tacoma later this year.

Just for Fun
What is one of your biggest accomplishments? Completing my master’s degree. I worked full-time at an engineering company, I attended school at Seattle University, and I coached a high school lacrosse team. It was a busy 2.5 years. During my graduate program, I participated in an internship with a microfinance organization in Africa. I spent 10 weeks in Ghana and Kenya interviewing women who had received micro-loans.

What is your favorite activity? I’ve played lacrosse for over 20 years. I first started playing as a freshman in high school and played in college. Now I play on a club team called Breakaway Women’s Lacrosse. It’s a great way to stay active and I love seeing how much the sport has grown in Washington.

What was your first big purchase with your own money? My 2008 Mazda 3

What is something most people don’t know about you? I love to travel. I’ve been to over 20 countries and counting… My sister is my favorite travel companion. We travel well together, and we’ve been on many international travel adventures. We enjoy exploring new places; we laugh at ourselves a lot but that’s what makes it fun!

Another fun fact is that for my first job, I was an elevator operator at the Space Needle. I can give you a 43-second tour of Seattle as you ascend to the top!

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Barcelona, Spain. I studied abroad in Barcelona when I was 21 years old. I have always wanted to return and live there. I loved the food, the architecture, and the people!
