Seattle City (spot)Light: Tamina Gann, Electric Service Representative Training Supervisor

The Basics

How long have you been at City Light? Since 2012.

Division: Customer Engineering

Tell us about your role: I onboard and train electric service representatives (ESRs), who are often the first point of contact for customers with inquiries, concerns, or requests related to electrical services. I provide our ESRs with a foundation to be successful, which includes technical, technology, and organizational skills.

Background

Hometown: Kent, Wash.

Discipline/Trade of study: I graduated from Green River Community College with a degree in general studies. I followed in my brother’s footsteps and started working with the City of Seattle in 2005 as a temporary meter reader at Seattle Public Utilities. I then moved to City Light as the front desk receptionist in our People & Culture Division for one year. After that, I served as a credit field representative for two years, a residential ESR for four years, and a commercial ESR for four years. Now I am in my first year as an ESR supervisor.

Tell us about your family/pets: I have 27-year-old twins. My son served six years in the U.S. Army as an air traffic controller. He lives in Federal Way and is studying cyber security. My daughter went to school for early childhood education and operates a small daycare in Kennewick. She cares for my two grandchildren, plus an infant, and a toddler. I live in an RV park in Bonney Lake with my husband and Chihuahua. We are enjoying tiny living!

Just for Fun

What is the most rewarding part of your work at the utility? Training is a passion of mine. I like to share the knowledge I have acquired over the last eight years in the Customer Engineering Division.

When you were younger, what was your dream job? I wanted to be a counselor and was interested in psychology. I care about people and their well-being and am a great listener.

What’s your favorite indoor activity? Playing dice games and painting with friends and family.

If you could use two words to describe yourself, what would they be? Caring and dedicated.

What fashion trend would you bring back? None of them… LOL.
