The outage started about 12:45 p.m. when a crow made contact with a switch that connects overhead power lines to an underground cable. About 3,800 homes and businesses were affected. Crews completed repairs and restored service about 3 p.m.
The general boundaries of the outage were 75th Street on the north, 38th Street on the south, 8th Ave NE on the west and Lake Washington on the east. Not all customers within those boundaries were affected.
Seattle City Light is the 10th largest public electric utility in the United States. It has some of the lowest cost customer rates of any urban utility, providing reliable, renewable and environmentally responsible power to nearly 1 million Seattle area residents. City Light has been greenhouse gas neutral since 2005, the first electric utility in the nation to achieve that distinction.
