The Basics
How long have you been at City Light? It will be six years in May.
Division: Power Marketing
Tell us about your role: Most fundamentally, we are responsible for delivering the energy produced by our power generation facilities. Whether we send it to California, Canada, the Southwest desert, or to serve Seattle’s native load, our group accounts for the energy that City Light produces and determines where it’s distributed on the wire.
Background
Hometown: Issaquah, Wash.
Area of study: I attended college for a couple of years, but, in general, I’ve been at this in some form or another for over 40 years. I began my career running giant generating sets at a small utility in Homestead, Fla. After rebuilding our home after Hurricane Andrew, we moved north of Atlanta but returned to Florida after the energy crisis. I was offered a job in the Northwest about 12 years ago, and we’ve been here ever since.
Tell us about your family: I come from a family of military parents. We traveled all over the world growing up. I was born overseas in Germany and also spent several years in England.
Just for Fun
When you were younger, what was your dream job? I was a young boy in the 1960s, so of course, we all wanted to be astronauts.
What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend? Looking for something to do outside – weather permitting!
What would people never guess that you do in your role? Help to manage the fish population.
If you could have any job for only one day, what would it be and why? I would enjoy making things out of glass, from the firing process to the introduction of metals for coloring the glass and such.
What is your favorite travel memory/experience? We have had some wonderful experiences here in Washington. We enjoy Long Beach, the North Cascades, Mazama, and the Spokane areas. We have had good times in each location.
