Tell us about your role. What does your job entail? I am the emergency manager for Seattle City Light. My job is to prepare the utility for any and all emergencies that may disrupt service to our customers.
Background
Hometown: Bamberg, S.C.
Alma Mater: I have my bachelor’s from South Carolina State University, a HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities). I obtained my master’s from Lander University.
Area of study: My bachelor’s degree is in physical activity management, and my master’s is in emergency preparedness.
Tell us about your family: I am the youngest of three. My mom is currently retired after working 38 years as an engineer at Savannah River Site. My father runs and operates our family butcher shop, locally known as B&B Meat and Family Kitchen, which we’ve owned for 31 years.

What has helped you get to where you are and what advice do you have for others who want to set off in a similar career direction? Honestly, having great mentors has helped me navigate my way through the emergency management industry. Finding those dependable mentors who want to see you grow and develop is absolutely rare, but I was able to make those connections.
What do you like most about your role? What I like most is being able to service the community.

If you could have dinner with one person, living or deceased, who would it be and why? I would like to have dinner with Missy Elliott.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Atlanta, Ga. It’s a melting pot for successful young people of color.
