Seattle City (spot)Light: Jeffrey Ball, Electrician Constructor Journeyworker

The Basics

How long have you been at City Light? Seven years

Division: Transmission & Distribution Operations

Tell us about your role: I replace, repair and troubleshoot power equipment, such as circuit breakers, transformers and capacitor banks at Seattle City Light’s substations and related facilities.

Background

Hometown: Bremerton, Wash.

Alma mater: The Evergreen State College

Discipline/Trade of study: Liberal arts degree in fine art and art history

Tell us about your family/pets: I’m an eligible bachelor. My father, aunt, uncle and cousins are in the area. I have no pets currently, but I do enjoy watching the bunnies and hummingbirds in my front yard.

Just for fun

What is the most rewarding part of your work at the utility? Identifying the cause of a problem and then being able to fix it, especially when it’s a long-standing one.

What TV show are you currently binge-watching? I tend to spend more screen time gaming, which right now means “Baldur’s Gate 3”! Anyone want to join my party?

What is your hidden talent or hobby? I have quite a few, but snowboarding is probably the most athletic hobby I’ve ever had. Stevens Pass is my home mountain; say hi if you see me up there!

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be and why? The ability to tell immediately when someone is lying or being dishonest. Both so I could call them out on it and because there is so much misinformation being spread.

What is one of your fears? Even though I learned to swim at a young age, I’ve always had anxiety in large bodies of water. Everyone wants to jump in the lake when it’s hot out – no thanks.
