The Basics
How long have you been at City Light? Six months.
Division: Communications.
Tell us about your role: As an internal communications advisor, I like to think of myself as a reporter for the utility. My role is to keep City Light’s workforce engaged and informed by writing and publishing a variety of content for our internal communications channels. I also serve as editor of our weekly employee newsletter and assist in managing the utility’s intranet, the Hub.
Background
Hometown: Dunedin (pronounced duh-nee-dn), Florida, which is on the gulf coast near Tampa.
Alma mater: University of South Florida (Go Bulls!)
Discipline/Trade of study: I have a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Tell us about your family/pets: I’m married to my best friend and Englishman, Daniel, and we have a tortie cat, named Petra.
Just for Fun
What is your favorite travel memory/experience? Before we were married, Daniel and I spent a year traveling around New Zealand while on a working holiday visa. We bought a 22-year-old Mazda – which eventually broke down on top of a mountain – from two Italian backpackers and worked any odd jobs we could find. As someone who loves animals, one of the best jobs was house-sitting on a farm for five weeks.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I was a competitive gymnast for ten years and went to the Junior Olympics twice.
What is your favorite fall activity? We live around the corner from the University of Washington in Bothell, and in the fall, crows come to the campus to roost. Watching thousands of crows coming together in the evening to socialize and prepare for the night is quite impressive (and noisy!).
What’s a book you’ve read recently? “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand. It’s a true story about an Olympic runner who survives a plane crash in World War II and eventually ends up at a prisoner of war camp. Although difficult to read at times, it was a fascinating read that I highly recommend.
What’s a skill or hobby you’ve picked up recently? With the help of YouTube, I learned how to knit.
