Shoreline Substation Transformer Replacement Project Complete

Seattle City Light recently completed a transformer replacement project at the Shoreline Substation. Crews worked tirelessly to remove the old transformer, prepare the pad for the new transformer and then assembled it. The new transformer was installed, tested, and commissioned and began serving the Shoreline community in late 2016.

Electrical Infrastructure Upgrades Planned in the Chinatown-International District

Starting in mid-to-late January 2017, Seattle City Light will begin replacing aging utility poles and its associated infrastructure in parts of the International District and Yesler Terrace neighborhoods. The project will upgrade aging infrastructure and the existing electrical system.

Starting in mid-January 2017, Seattle City Light will resume civil construction to install new vaults and conduit (duct bank) in the South Lake Union neighborhood. This project was previously on hold due to crew availability. The work will allow for increased electrical reliability in the surrounding area.

In January 2017, Seattle City Light will continue supporting Advanced Metering services throughout the utility’s service territory by replacing existing utility poles with taller poles, which will host wireless utility data collection equipment. The new poles will be 70 feet tall, which is about 20 feet taller than the existing poles.

City Light Completes Cable Injection in Lake Forest Park

Earlier this fall, Seattle City Light completed its silicone cable injection work in Lake Forest Park. The project began in September 2016 to enhance the reliability and extend the life of aging underground electrical cables in parts of Lake Forest Park by injecting them with silicone.

Denny Substation Construction Work Will Impact Denny Way Starting Oct. 14

Seattle City Light is advising drivers and commuters to prepare for five weeks of lane closures on Denny Way between Stewart St. and Minor Ave N, beginning Friday, Oct. 14. Crews will be installing underground utilities for the Denny Substation.
