South Washington Street Infrastructure Improvement

Starting as early as August 1, a Seattle City Light crew will be working in Pioneer Square to repair and connect electrical conduits. This work will enhance the electrical system’s reliability and reduce the likelihood of unplanned power outages.

City Light Completes Underground Conversion Work in Capitol Hill

Seattle City Light recently completed the final stages of work for the East Union Street Underground Conversion Project. City Light’s contractor, Pellco Construction, installed underground electrical conduit, vaults and associated equipment in parts of East Union Street, from 10th to 11thAvenue. This work was aligned with the City of Seattle’s ordinance to underground power lines in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.

System Reliability Work on Spokane Street Viaduct to Start on July 14

Starting on Friday, July 14, Seattle City Light crews plan to improve electrical system reliability by pulling new wire over the top of the West Seattle Bridge near 2nd Avenue South.

Seattle City Light Completes Construction at 6th Avenue & Cherry Street

This past June, Seattle City Light recently completed the final stages of civil construction at 6th Avenue and Cherry Street. Crews excavated for new conduit (duct bank) between the existing electrical vaults on the west side of 6th Avenue and the south side of Cherry Street.

City Light to Replace Aging Infrastructure in SODO Neighborhood

Starting in June 2017, Seattle City Light will replace aging electrical infrastructure in the SODO neighborhood. The work will include replacing aging utility poles, overhead wire and equipment to help upgrade the existing electrical system.

Seattle City Light to Repair Streetlights in First Hill

Starting in mid-to-late May 2017, Seattle City Light will be working to improve pedestrian safety in the First Hill neighborhood by temporarily repairing 18 failed streetlights on Madison Street, spanning from Minor to Terry avenues. Crews will connect overhead cables from Terry Avenue and Madison Street towards Boren and 9th avenues to restore power to the failed streetlights.

City Light Relocating Transmission Lines Beneath Alaskan Way Viaduct

Transmission lines that power downtown Seattle have been attached to the Alaskan Way Viaduct since it was constructed in 1953. Seattle City Light has been working to complete the full relocation of these transmission lines to a permanent location underground.
