Electrical Reliability Work Planned on 4th Avenue

Seattle City Light crews plan to install an underground duct bank (groups of conduits used to protect electrical cables) on 4th Avenue, near Jefferson Street. This project is needed to maintain and provide future capacity for electrical growth in the downtown core.

Underground Electrical Upgrades Planned in Capitol Hill

In 2017, Seattle City Light crews installed underground electrical conduit, vaults and associated equipment in parts of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. This work was done as part of the City of Seattle’s ordinance to convert overhead power lines to an underground electrical system. The next step of this work involves pulling in cables to connect to the underground system. This is projected to begin in early March 2020.

Electrical Upgrades Planned in the Delridge Neighborhood

Seattle City Light crews plan to upgrade the electrical reliability of the Delridge neighborhood by replacing aging utility poles, overhead wire, and equipment along Southwest Brandon Street, 21st Avenue Southwest, Southwest Andover Street, and 23rd Avenue Southwest. These improvements will support growth for future electrical infrastructure in the area while reducing unplanned power outages.

Seattle City Light Completes Construction on 13th Avenue South

Seattle City Light crews have completed the final stages of construction on 13th Avenue South. Crews replaced aging electrical infrastructure and upgraded an existing electrical system that will reduce unplanned power outages and increase electrical reliability for the surrounding area.

City Light Completes Streetlight Infrastructure Upgrades in Shelby-Hamlin

This past fall, contracted crews completed a six-month project to replace an aging streetlight system in the Shelby-Hamlin/Montlake area. Crews replaced the streetlight fixtures, poles and underground infrastructure with updated equipment. The new fixtures were selected, based on community feedback from local residents.

City Light Continues Lynnwood Link Wire Relocations on I-5

Seattle City Light crews plan to relocate existing overhead power lines over Interstate 5 near Northeast 189th and 195th streets to support Sound Transit’s Lynnwood Link Extension project. This work will result in traffic impacts on October 22-25.

Seattle City Light crews plan to relocate existing overhead power lines over Interstate 5 near Northeast 200th and 203rd streets to support Sound Transit’s Lynnwood Link Extension project. This work will result in traffic impacts on October 7-9.

Powering the Battery Street Tunnel Meters

It’s hard to forget driving past the view of Puget Sound on the viaduct and coasting through the Battery Street Tunnel on our daily commutes, trips to Green Lake, or any of the many destinations in and out of the city. What you may not have seen were the nine meters that lined the Battery Street Tunnel and more so, the meter readers that were tasked with checking those meters in the narrow tunnel.
